Pre-cognition: A natural skill to tune into?
Recently a friend contacted me after an experience they had had of just knowing the outcome of a certain situation before it happened.  They felt both excited and unsure of what had occurred – had they really predicted a future event or was their memory playing tricks on them?  If they had known what was about to happen, how & why had it occurred, could it happen again?

Being able to know what will happen at a future time is in scientific fields called Pre-cognition.  This can vary from having a feeling about something, to knowing & visioning exactly how something will turn out.  In our society we tend to think of pre-cognition as something quite strange, mystical and that there must be a ‘rational’ explanation that will explain it away.

However, this attitude actually goes against the growing amount of scientific evidence that pre-cognition is a perfectly natural skill with which many, (if not all of us) are equipped to one level or  another.   Lyn McTaggart in her book, “The Field” recounts scientific studies of individuals and groups predicting future events.  This ’prediction’ happens from a cellular level up.  For example, one such test was measuring the physiological response of candidates shown stimulating images designed to generate certain responses, (e.g. amidst neutral images, there will be an image that is more stimulating).  The result was that candidates Galvanic Skin  Response, (moisture level in the skin controlled by sympathetic nervous system) responded to stimulating images BEFORE the image is shown to them.

consciousness createsAt last years Scientific & Medical Network Conference, I remember David Luke, (President of International Parapsychologist Association & lecturer at Greenwich university), being asked, given the limited funding, what would be your number 1 area of research in parapsychology be?  His answer pre-cognition, because it is so easy to set up robust, controlled, randomized samples whose results are hard to dismiss even within rigid scientific paradigms.  After all –who can argue with cellular, chemically released pre-cognition!

So, my point is – the question is not whether its possible to ‘pre-know’ about an event, but rather assuming its something we all do naturally at a physiological level, how do we become conscious of it and work with it in a meaningful way?

How to connect to your Pre-cognition abilities

Based on my experience of tuning into my own intuitive knowing and from facilitating others in re-connecting to these natural skills, here are two suggestions:

1. If you have had an experience of pre-cognition, take a moment to reflect on that experience and consider how you receive this knowing:

-Was it a feeling? If so can you describe it?

- Was it a sensation? If so where in the body?

- Was it telepathic word/thought?

- Was it an image? If so how did this appear –colors, shapes or perhaps as a movie real?

Mapping your own paths of intuitive knowing, helps you to become conscious of the way you receive precognition, and through placing your awareness in this process, you sensitize yourself to its activity so that when it comes along next time you can recognize and understand it quicker.

2. Open up to playfully exploring this potential ability in you.  You can do this through asking questions about your near future.  These are best to be non-emotionally charged questions of a practical nature. For example, as you drive into your local town, you can ask yourself, where might there be a free parking space for me?   Or, if you have some free time, you can tune into an experience you would like to have,  (e.g. relaxation, joyfulness, openness etc) and then ask where shall I go to experience this?   You can do this in a step by step method as you walk out of your house asking left, right or straight on.  Or also you could go for an intuitive drive.

As you explore how you can start to actualize this sense, come from a place of curiosity, playfulness and openness to see what will happen.  Leave behind any thought of proving it works, it being right or wrong.   Developing new or so far latent skills in us needs freedom, enjoyment and relaxation to grow.  As a child finds it harder to learns under pressure, we will also find that the pressure to succeed, or getting it right will impact our ability to connect with our intuitive senses.  So my recommendation is let the experts like David get on with the proof, and you enjoy playful exploration!

The great news is that as you practice tuning into your own natural precognition sensing, you are also developing your wider intuitive abilities that will act as your inner compass to guide you in life.  It can be very confusing and tiring to be always looking externally for your answers about how life works, how you can live in greatest harmony, fulfillment and peace.  It’s an amazing gift to yourself to listen to your inner knowing, to value your innate wisdom & to give care and attention to growing it.   I wish you much joy in developing your intuition.
