I was struck by the utter brilliance of it, and saw my world from a whole new perspective,
This posed the question, how many other fundamental forces are acting upon us all the time & how can I become aware of them?
Well, gravity becomes more patently obvious when we test it..for example jumping and feeling yourself land. How might I test my equilibrium to feel the ripples of other such forces?
My first test was to form a smile, not as a reaction or response to outer stimulus but to feel the ripple effects of the force of a smile. The result, I noticed a lightening through my body, a freer movement in my gate, I perceived my environment differently, positively appreciating the trees around me vs a neutral looking. I felt my belly relax and my thoughts had a cheerfulness to them. Laughter Yoga is one example of using this force purposefully.
Then I considered the force of my thoughts themselves and felt the magnitude and diversity of the 1000’s of thought form forces acting through me each day, without barely a consideration for their effect. How are they effecting me physically, emotionally mentally? Like a smile do their ripple effects extend out to those around me? Of course they do, as energy does not die, it just changes form.
I wondered where on the spectrum of dive bombing/belly flopping tidal waves to elegant synchronized swimmer ripples my personal thought forces resided?
And what is my response? Hours of meditation to retain the ‘no thought’ state for minutes if I’m lucky? Or like wave power, do I choose the direction, force and content of my thoughts to generate useful energy?
“Groking” the unseen force of thoughts
My first realization was that I need to feel the effect of the force of my thoughts before I can engage with it. Conceptually knowing that affirmations are supportive of positive change and shoulds/oughts & inner critic voices (such as ‘you’re not good enough’) are detrimental is not the same as ‘groking’ this, as with testing the impact of a smile or jumping to feel gravity.
Exercise: Sensing the Thought Ripple Effect
If you want to engage – try saying the thought outloud or in your head ‘I’m stressed’ – notice, what are the ripple effects through your mental, emotional and physical being? 1-2 minutes should give you a good enough read. Now do the same thing with the statement, “I’m free”, again giving yourself 1-2 minutes to explore the effects.
Avoiding the trap of self-judgment & creating ripples of happiness
Now I’m aware of the abundant source of thought power flowing through me. How do I wish to use it?
Well, first the thought comes, ‘I’m screwed, so many negative thoughts’ and through my ripple effect training I see the potential outcome of this thought force which is limiting, restrictive, tight, fear enducing.
Leading to a second realisation, once the outcome is seen, the force itself is tamed. In the same way that when you see a wave coming you can align with the force vs being knocked over unawares.
Could it also be true that if I am conscious of my life enhancing thoughts that I can positively align and maximize their ripples? Those of you who have a practice of consciously noticing those things in life that you appreciate or are grateful for will know this to be true.
So with the help of gravity my adventure into creating ripples of joy, happiness, laughter, tenderness, love, playfulness, freedom and bliss are expanded! Choosing to amplify internal thoughts like, ‘wow that was fun!’ or ‘I feel so alive after that sea dip’ ‘I loved doing this’
And also sharing affirmative thoughts to others creates beautiful ripples, for example ‘You look great today’, ‘I’m excited about working with you’, ‘this food tastes amazing’
……so many hundreds of possibilities every day…add in a few more fabulous ripples of happiness with your thoughts and before long you will be riding the most majestic, beautiful shimmering wave of blissfulness.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend
